Weekly Winners (Feb. 28 – Mar. 6)

March 6th, 2010 Denise 22 comments

Mostly close-ups this week. Stressful week. Then, I got started to get sick Thursday. Pushed it too far Friday, and I’m only just now feeling remotely human again. Creativity levels are lowwwwww this week.

For far more creative people than I am, visit the WW hostess, Lotus.

Theres just something I love about an American Flag against a clear blue sky.

I had an irritation on my ring finger one day this week, so I ended up wearing my wedding ring on a chain. I just liked how it looked.

Weekly Winners (Feb. 21 – 27)

Hey, guess what! MORE SNOW! Only this time in Central Texas, where its not snowed this much since 1982. To top it off, on each end of this week featured days with highs in the upper-60s/lower-70s. CRAZY!!!

For more Weekly Winner hi-jinx, check out the lovely Lotus (aka Sarcastic Mom).

This tree grows across the street from my parents house. On Sunday, its large branches against the beautiful sunset struck me as something I had to document.

Cold and hungry.

Even though it snowed all day long, it stayed just above freezing for most of the day. Snow collected on the rooftops, even as it dripped down the edges like rain.

My parents dog stared out at the snow much of the day in an almost state of confusion. What is this stuff coming from the sky? And why?

Let them eat cake! The snow outside compelled me to make a cake. So I baked this chocolate cake, and served it up with powdered sugar, whipped cream and sprinkles. Why do it half-way?? Go all out!

Reaching 50 degrees the next day, the snow quickly melted in the sunshine.

I was driving late at night from a friends house when I saw this huge Texas flag being whipped in the wind. I HAD to pull over to get a photo.

I began with a sunset; I end with a sunset. Upper 60s and sunshine. The sunset was stunning, and it seemed the perfect ending for the week.

Much like the dove with the olive branch, this patch of green grass heards the coming of Spring in a few weeks. It fights through over an inch of snow to reach for the sunlight. *Photo appeared on Nashvillest this week.*

What is it about fresh snow that makes a grown woman into a giddy child? Atleast, you know, when she doesnt have anywhere to be that day.

Reaching for the sky, the trees look for sunshine and rain to grow... perhaps wed be good to take note of their approach to life. Take the rain with the sun and be grateful for both.

Weekly Winners (Jan. 31 – Feb. 6)

A very random mix of photos for this week’s Weekly Winners… no rhyme or reason to this set at all. Well, other than the fact that they occurred this week. And that I took them. And that they are in this post. So maybe there is reason. But there is no rhyme.

Weekly Winners is a creation of the lovely Lotus (aka Sarcastic Mom) who I am supremely jealous of this week as she is at Blissdom ‘10 in Nashville. PBTH

Weekly Winners (Jan. 24 – 30)

This is the first time my Weekly Winners post comes all from the same day. However, it was a very special day. It was Stride & Ride.

My excitement for the day was trumped by this overwhelming hope and joy of the event. As we made the walk around Cowboys Stadium, I was amazed at how all of us there had gathered to celebrate MDA’s strides towards a cure for Muscular Dystrophy. We were all gathered together with one common purpose. There was old and young there. There were people of every race. There teams walked with their friend or family member who have Muscular Dystrophy. There were those walking in memory of a loved one.

The excitement that buzzed in the air trumped the fact we were at the new Cowboys Stadium — a sight in and of itself to experience. And at the end of the day, over $500,000 were raised for MDA (the group with the most raised was a high school team!) and there was this wonderful reminder to everyone there: You are not alone.

Amazing. I am SO GLAD I got to be there… Thank you Scott, Dana, Cody and Jeni for having me there. Go Maynard’s Gang!

Happy New Year!

I was traveling all day yesterday and last night from Central Texas to Nashville, TN. Therefore my Weekly Winners post is a little late today. But never fear, they are here!! For many more Weekly Winners participants, go visit Sarcastic Mom!

In an attempt to save money in 2010, we went to refinance on our truck. In the end, we ended up in a new 2010 F-150 because it ultimately will save us A LOT in lower insurance costs and better gas mileage. Not to mention, we now have a warranty again in case of repairs needed. New truck. Save money. Crazy, huh?

Dangles from my mirror -- These dangle have accumulated through my various trucks. The star I purchased at the Kolache Festival in Caldwell in either 2003 or 2004. The black beads my husband gave me just before our first kiss. The rest just made their way there over time for one reason or another. And, yes, they are in the new truck now.
